3D animation and video production

3D animation uses computer-generated objects and environments to show a product, explain a process or tell a brand story. It allows a scene to be viewed from different angles and can visualise things that would be difficult to film.

How a 3D video is created

  1. Concept and story. Define the message, audience and purpose of the video.
  2. Storyboard. Plan the sequence of scenes and the overall flow before detailed production.
  3. Modelling. Build the objects, environments or characters needed for the concept.
  4. Animation. Create movement and coordinate the camera, objects and characters.
  5. Rendering and finishing. Produce the final images and combine them with the agreed sound and graphics.

Where can 3D help?

A product presentation can show its shape and details clearly. An explanatory sequence can make a complicated mechanism easier to understand. A brand film can use a visual style that is difficult to achieve with ordinary footage. The choice should follow the communication task, rather than using animation only for its novelty.

What should be included in the brief?

Describe the product or service, the audience and the main message. Share available product images, drawings or models, brand materials and examples of the desired style. Agree on duration, destination platforms, language versions and delivery requirements before production.

The number of scenes, modelling detail and animation complexity affect the amount of work. Reviewing the concept and storyboard early helps avoid unnecessary changes at the rendering stage.
